Fiji Airways wants more business
Fiji Airways has the potential to develop more business from Wellington through to United States ports, said Andrew Stanbury, the airline’s executive general manager, sales and marketing.
At a recent function in Wellington, to celebrate the second anniversary of Fiji Airways direct Wellington-Nadi flights using B737 aircraft, Stanbury said while the direct flights had been highly successful he saw potential for still more development. “I think we can drive more promotion of our iconic activities in Fiji, and build more travel beyond to the United States, for example by promotion of our code share with American Airlines, which takes us to 40 American cities. I think for an airport Wellington could well turn out to be a best kept secret, another one-stop solution through Nadi into San Francisco and other US ports.”
Fiji has recently extended its tax-free departure period to 72 hours, so people can stop over for 72 hours without having to pay departure tax, he added. The two-year celebration, held at Te Papa, was an opportunity to say thank you to travel agents from throughout the Wellington region for their support.
Fiji Airways operates year-round from Wellington to Nadi, increasing frequency during peak periods. This could not have done been without the support the airline gets from the trade and Fiji Airways sees more potential from Wellington, in Wellington, the top of the South Island and the lower North Island. “Other important partners helping us include Wellington International Airport and Tourism Fiji. Support from these partnerships is critical,” Stanbury said.
