Change of command for air force
The Change of Command parade.
The RNZAF welcomed its new commander with traditional military flair on 30 April when AVM Mike Yardley took command as Chief of Air Force in a ceremony at RNZAF Base Auckland.
The Change of Command ceremony is traditionally formal and impressive, to reflect the importance of the role and the continuity of command for the organisation. The ceremony concluded with a flypast of C-130 Hercules and P-3K2 Orions from 40 and 5 Squadrons respectively.
AVM Yardley took over from AVM Peter Stockwell, who has completed three years in command.
During that time the air force has operated at a high tempo, accepting new and upgraded aircraft into service, deploying to a range of operations and exercises, and contributing personnel to joint New Zealand Defence Force missions across the world.
